Before anything else
This only works on certain marks.
Most people who ask about camouflage aren't ready for it yet. That's not a judgment about your skin — it's about timing. Here's the honest filter.
Good candidate
- Marks are white, silver, or paler than surrounding skin
- At least 12 months old and no longer changing
- Flat, or close to it
- Skin is stable — no recent major weight change or pregnancy
- C-section, tummy tuck, breast surgery, or post-pregnancy marks
Not yet
- Marks are still red, pink, or purple
- Darker than the skin around them
- Raised, keloid, or actively thickening
- Less than a year old
- Currently pregnant or planning within a year

The part that decides everything
Mixing your colour takes longer than the tattoo.
There is no shade chart. I blend pigment against your skin in daylight, adjust for undertone, then dilute until it disappears against the area around the mark. Watch it happen.

Four visits over about six months.
This is slow work. Pigment has to settle before the next layer goes in, and settled colour is the only colour that tells the truth.
Consultation & colour match
45 minutes. I assess the marks in daylight, measure the area, take your medical history, and hand-mix pigment against your skin. You leave with a firm quote and a date. $100, credited to your first session.
First session
One to three hours depending on area. I work conservatively on the first pass — it is far easier to add pigment than to remove it. Surface healing takes 7–10 days.
Second session
Eight weeks later, once colour has fully settled. This is where most of the blending happens, and where I correct any drift in tone.
Third session & refinement
Edges softened, patchy retention filled, final blend. Around four in ten clients want a fourth pass. Final result is visible about eight weeks after your last session.
Before pigment — sometimes instead of it
Texture work, no colour added.
Pigment only blends evenly across even skin. Where marks are ridged, indented, or darker than the skin around them, colour alone will follow the texture and make it more obvious, not less.
Texture sessions use fine needling with a topical serum to soften the surface and reduce contrast, without adding any pigment. Two to three sessions, four weeks apart. For some people it's a preparation step. For others — particularly darker or raised marks that aren't camouflage candidates — it's the whole treatment.
What this does: softens texture and reduces how sharply a mark stands out. What it doesn't do: remove stretch marks or scars. Anyone promising that is overselling it.

Will it make my scars disappear?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Camouflage reduces contrast — the scar stops drawing the eye from across a room. Texture stays. Under direct light, close up, you'll still know where it is. Most clients say the difference is that they stop thinking about it.
Does it hurt?
Less than a decorative tattoo. Scar tissue often has reduced sensation, and topical numbing goes on before and during. Most people describe a scratching or warm sensation.
Is it permanent?
It's a tattoo, so the pigment is permanent — but it softens. Expect three to five years before it needs refreshing, sooner with heavy sun exposure. Your skin tone also shifts seasonally, so a summer tan can make camouflage temporarily more visible.
What if the colour doesn't match?
This is the real risk, and it's why the first session is deliberately conservative. Pigment heals differently than it looks going in. Working in light layers across three sessions means adjustments happen before anything is over-saturated.
Does it work on deeper skin tones?
Yes, and it requires more care. Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin carries higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and colour matching is less forgiving. I take these cases and I'm specific about it at consultation — including when I think the answer should be no.
Can I do this if I'm still having children?
Wait. Pregnancy stretches the skin and will distort the work. Same for planned significant weight loss. Come back once your body has been stable for about a year.
What if I'm not happy with it?
Tell me at the eight-week check, not at day three — fresh work always looks wrong and judging it early leads to bad decisions.
If the colour has healed off-tone, correcting it is part of your next session at no extra charge. If we get to the end of your series and the blend still isn't right, I'll do one additional session free.
I don't refund completed sessions. What I do instead is stop early — if I don't think I can get you a good result, I'll say so before you book.
Why do I have to pay for a consultation?
Because it's a real appointment, not a sales meeting — 45 minutes of assessment, pigment mixing, and planning. It's credited to your first session, so if you go ahead it costs you nothing.
